A way to map the window — together, in the room.

The Window of Tolerance Map is now available to free members — a clinician-facilitated mapping tool

This month's tool is the Window of Tolerance Map, and it's now available to free members. It's a clinical mapping tool you build with a client: you map their hyperarousal, hypoarousal, and regulated zones together, and they leave with a version they can look at and use between sessions.

It's built to be facilitated, not used alone — the clinician side is a builder, the client side is a viewer with a Coping Mode and a PDF printout to take home. No accounts, no server storage.

Window of Tolerance Map + Companion Resources

A clinical mapping tool you build with clients in session, a facilitation guide for the clinicians introducing it, and two companion resources wired into the tool for grounding and quick reference.

Window of Tolerance Map

Interactive Web Tool · Clinician-Facilitated · No Login Required

A clinical mapping tool you facilitate with a client. The clinician side is a builder — you map the client's hyperarousal, hypoarousal, and regulated zones together, naming what each one looks and feels like for them. The client side is a viewer they take away: their own map, a Coping Mode they can turn to between sessions, and a PDF printout to keep or mark up by hand. Grounded in a nervous-system / Window of Tolerance framework (Siegel, Ogden). Built to be facilitated, not used alone — pair it with the clinician guide. No accounts, no server storage.

The facilitation companion. When to introduce the map, sample language for walking a client through it, how to use the zones in session, and when the tool isn't the right fit. Read this first if the map is new to you.

Wired into the tool: two companion resources

Download · PDF · Linked from inside the Map

The map links out to two resources you may already know — the Containment Quick Reference Card and the Brief Trauma Intervention guide. Both are wired into the tool so they're a click away when a client needs grounding or you need a quick reference mid-session.

The Window of Tolerance Map is a clinical mapping tool, facilitated by a clinician. It isn't an assessment, a screener, or a substitute for clinical judgment. Use the clinician guide for context on when it fits and when it doesn't. Crisis resources appear throughout the tool: 988, Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741), and findahelpline.com.
