What's in every deck

Twelve cards, one consistent format

Once you know how one deck works, you know how all sixteen work. The format is the same across every theme and both editions.

  • An illustrated sceneEach card opens with a watercolour illustration and a handwritten caption — warm and human, not clinical-looking.
  • A situation and four choicesThe back carries a short scenario written in the client's voice, four things they might realistically do, and a discussion prompt.
  • An outcome reference sheetYou keep the sheet that says what tends to follow each choice, so you decide when and whether to share it.
  • Keywords and a colour barClinical themes printed on every card, so you can find what you need and group cards across decks.
  • Wet-erase laminated stockWrite on them in session, wipe clean, reuse. Rounded corners, because a deck that gets used takes a beating.
  • Two editions per themeKids for ages five to twelve and Teen for adolescents — separately written and illustrated, not the same cards with simpler words.
The series

Eight themes, Kids and Teen

Every theme comes in both editions, sold separately so you can build the set that matches your caseload.

Addiction & Mental Health

A parent or sibling who is using, in treatment, relapsing, or in crisis — and what a young person carries while it happens around them.

KidsTeen

Family & Home

Conflict, separation, household rules, and the roles a young person ends up playing at home without ever agreeing to them.

KidsTeen

Feelings & Coping

Naming what is happening in the body before naming the feeling, and what a young person does with it once it has a name.

KidsTeen

Identity & Self

Self-worth, comparison, and the gap between who a young person is and who they are being told to be.

KidsTeen

Peer & Social

Friendship, exclusion, pressure, and the cost of belonging somewhere that asks for something in return.

KidsTeen

School & Authority

Teachers, rules, fairness, and what happens when an adult with power gets it wrong.

KidsTeen

Siblings

Loyalty, rivalry, protection, and the sibling whose needs take up all the air in the house.

KidsTeen

Transitions

Moves, new placements, new schools, and the changes a young person did not choose and cannot undo.

In session

How a card runs

Use one as a warm-up, as the whole session, or as a way in when a client is stuck.

1

Pick a card that meets your client

Start where they are. The keywords and colour bar help you match a card to what you're working on.

2

Read the situation together

The illustration and the short scenario give the client something outside themselves to react to — far less pressure than being asked about their own life directly.

3

Let them choose

Four things they might realistically do. What matters is what they'd actually pick, not what sounds like the right answer.

4

Talk about what follows

The outcome sheet says what tends to happen next. No choice is the correct one — every one carries something, and that's where the session is.

Common questions

Before you order

Are the decks tied to a theoretical orientation?

No. They work alongside whatever you practise — CBT, MI, trauma-informed, harm reduction, play therapy. The cards open the conversation; you bring the framework.

Do I need training to use them?

If you're a licensed clinician or a clinical student, no. These are conversational scaffolds, not protocol-driven assessments. They are not screening instruments and produce no score.

Can I use one deck with both kids and teens?

Each theme has two editions — Kids for ages five to twelve, Teen for adolescents. The scenarios, language, and illustrations are written separately for each, so the Teen edition isn't the Kids edition with harder words. If you work across ages, you'll want both editions of the themes you use most.

Can I try one before buying?

Yes. Both editions of Addiction & Mental Health are free to run online with any account — see the digital decks.

How durable are the cards?

Laminated stock with rounded corners, built for real clinical wear. Wet-erase markers wipe clean with a soft cloth. With reasonable care a deck holds up to heavy session use.

Do members get a discount?

Yes, 20% off shop products. Membership covers the resource library; the shop is separate, and those are individual products.

What's the return policy?

Physical products are non-returnable unless damaged or misprinted. Full details are on the policies page. If something arrives wrong, email support and it gets made right.

Real conversations don't happen on command. These are a way to invite one.
